10-6.01 PURPOSE AND INTENT The purpose of this chapter is to regulate signs in the City. Signs have an obvious impact on the character, quality, and economic health of the City of Madera. As a prominent part of the scenery, signs may attract the viewing public, help set the visual tone of the community, and affect the safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. This ordinance shall prevent the degradation of the visual quality of the City which can result from the proliferation of excessive amounts of signage, poorly designed signage, inappropriately located signage, and/or signage maintained in a hazardous or unsightly fashion.
The newly adopted sign ordinance provides for new standards for signage in the City. The new ordinance was the subject of multiple workshops and public hearings. Community involvement during multiple drafts of the revised ordinance has equated to a sign ordinance that mirrors the vision of the community. Full implementation and enforcement of the ordinance will begin on April 1, 2010.
If you were unable to attend any of the City of Madera Sign Ordinance Workshops... the following are the materials that were distributed. For additional information, contact Christopher Boyle, Senior Planner, City of Madera, 205 West 4th Street, Madera CA 93637 or phone (559) 661-5433
