Several years ago, two associates in a Wal-Mart store developed a procedure to help find children who were reported missing or lost in a retail store. The search process was named Code Adam in memory of a young child, Adam Walsh, who in 1981 was abducted from a store and then murdered. Adam’s father is John Walsh, a co-founder of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and hosts the well known television show “Americas Most Wanted”. The National Center has adopted Code Adam and assisted in its placement in over 70,000 sites across our country. Venues for its use not only include retail but amusement parks, museums, malls, hospitals, government office buildings and libraries. This program is free for all businesses and the Chamber has an informational brochure that explains how to obtain a complete training kit for your site and employees. Kits are available from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children for all sites willing to implement the program. For more information about this program, please call (800)-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678) or visit www.missingkids.com |
