The following Road Construction Alerts from CalTrans are in effect.
Date: August 27, 2010
STATE ROUTE 180 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: 2-MONTH CLOSURE OF ACADEMY AVENUE WHAT: Academy Avenue will be CLOSED to northbound traffic at the intersection of Kings Canyon Road/SR-180 to construct NEW roadway lanes. A DETOUR will be provided to motorists. Academy Avenue will be OPEN south of SR-180 to motorists.
In addition, starting September 8, McCall Avenue will RE-OPEN to motorists with intermittent 5-minute delays for a 2-week truck-hauling operation. CHP is enforcing 25 MPH posted speed limit through the Construction Zone.
WHEN: Wednesday, September 8—through mid-November (Weather permitting)
DETOUR: All motorists are advised to use Belmont or Jensen Avenues to avoid the Construction Zone and use Temperance or McCall Avenues to travel north or southbound from SR-180.
SCHEDULE: This $27 million project is locally funded by Fresno County’s ½ cent Transportation Sales Tax, “Measure C” & was leveraged with Federal Stimulus Money. It is scheduled for completion in the Summer of 2011, weather permitting

WHAT: DELINEATION OPERATIONS CONTINUE TODAY AND NEXT WEEK ON STATE ROUTE 233 WITHIN THE CITY OF CHOWCHILLA. WHEN: TODAY FROM 6:00 A.M. TO 6:00 P.M. AND NEXT WEEK WEDNESDAY, SEPT 8TH AND THURSDAY, SEPT 9TH. WHERE: ON STATE ROUTE 233, FROM WASHINGTON ROAD TO THE STATE ROUTE 233/99 SEPARATION.
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces that Granite Construction continues to implement highway improvement operations and will implement delineation operations along State Route 233 within the City of Chowchilla today only and two days next week. No work will occur tomorrow, Friday, Sept 3rd or on Tuesday, Sept 7th due to the Labor Day holiday weekend. (Date and times subject to change due to unforeseen contractor operations).
Construction personnel will be on site to assist motorists through the project area. Motorists may experience delays in this area during this time frame. Motorists are asked to use an alternate route whenever possible.
Caltrans would like to thank the residents, businesses and commuters for their patience during this improvement project. Motorists are reminded to drive with extra care while traveling through maintenance and construction projects and to “Slow for the Cone Zone” at all times. ###

WHAT: NIGHT-WORK FOR THE REMOVAL OF THE OLD STRUCTURE AT THE CHESTER AVENUE BRIDGE ON STATE ROUTE 204 WILL BEGIN TONIGHT IN DOWNTOWN BAKERSFIELD.
LOCAL RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES ARE ADVISED THAT THIS DEMOLITION WORK MAY GENERATE EXCESSIVE NOISE/VIBRATION, DUST AND DEBRIS IN THE IMMEDIATE WORK AREA(S). CALTRANS AND GRIFFITH COMPANY WILL ENSURE MINIMAL IMPACT AND INCONVENIENCE TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY.
WHERE: STATE ROUTE 204 AT CHESTER AVENUE BRIDGE IN DOWNTOWN BAKERSFIELD

TRAFFIC ON STATE ROUTE 204 OVER CHESTER AVENUE BRIDGE TO BE SHIFTED TO ALLOW CONSTRUCTION WORK AND BRIDGE REMOVAL
WHO: The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in cooperation with GRIFFITH Company WHAT: TRAFFIC OVER THE CHESTER AVENUE BRIDGE IN DOWNTOWN BAKERSFIELD WILL BE SHIFTED FROM the NORTHBOUND LANES TO THE SOUTHBOUND LANES IN ORDER TO CONSTRUCT THE NEXT PHASE OF THIS BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT.
CONSTRUCTION HAS BEEN MOVING ALONG AT A STEADY PACE FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS. CRASH CUSHIONS AND CONSTRUCTION SAFETY DEVICES/DELINEATORS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ALONG WITH NEW CONCRETE CURB AND HOT-MIX ASPHALT PAVEMENT.
REMOVAL OF THE OLD BRIDGE STRUCTURE WILL BEGIN AS SOON AS TRAFFIC IS COMPLETELY AND SAFELY TRANSFERRED TO THE NEWLY INSTALLED TEMPORARY PAVING OVER THE BRIDGE. CALTRANS REMINDS MOTORISTS OF CONSTRUCTION ALONG STATE ROUTE 41 WITHIN THE CITY OF FRESNO
WHAT: REMINDER-ACTIVE CONSTRUCTION TAKING PLACE BEHIND K-RAIL ALONG STATE ROUTE 41 WHEN: CURRENTLY-CONTINUOUS WHERE: WITHIN THE CITY OF FRESNO, VARIOUS LOCATIONS
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) reminds motorists that Viking Construction continues to work behind concrete K-railing at the northbound Herndon Avenue northbound off-ramp. As part of the Herndon Auxiliary Lane improvement project, motorists are advised to “Slow for the Cone Zone” and to use caution at all times within the project limits for this and other active construction projects currently taking place along northbound and southbound State Route 41.
The project limits for the Herndon Auxiliary Lane Project are from the Bullard Avenue overcrossing to the Herndon Avenue undercrossing along northbound State Route 41. This improvement project will improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and improve safety along this portion of highway. This project is anticipated to be completed in summer 2011.
The Northbound Ramp Metering Project at Ashlan, Shaw /northbound Shaw loop on-ramps, and Bullard Avenue on-ramps was awarded to Granite Construction and consists of installing four ramp metering systems (RMS) thus improving the flow of traffic entering northbound State Route 41 at these four locations. This project is anticipated to be completed in winter 2011.
The Southbound Shields/McKinley Ramp Meter Project awarded to Granite Construction consists of the installation of three ramp metering systems, curb & gutter and sidewalk improvements. One RMS will be located at the McKinley Avenue loop on-ramp and two at the Shields Avenue southbound loop and direct on-ramps. This project will reduce “bottleneck” situations along SR41 and is anticipated to be completed in winter 2011. (Schedules subject to change due to unforeseen contractor operations or weather).

RESIDENTS REMINDED TO WATCH FOR CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT WITHIN LOCAL STREETS
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) reminds residents and motorists that Viking Construction continues construction of a $4 million auxiliary lane improvement project within the City of Fresno. The project limits for this project are from the Bullard Avenue overcrossing to the Herndon Avenue undercrossing along northbound State Route 41.
Active construction will begin behind concrete k-railing at the northbound SR 41 off-ramp from 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each day. However, in order to safely access the active worksite, residents are being notified that construction vehicles and equipment will be accessing the work site area through a freeway access gate located just east of the project for approximately the next four to six weeks. This improvement project is anticipated to be completed in summer 2011. (Schedule subject to change due to unforeseen contractor operations).
Caltrans would like to thank the residents who live near the current construction site for their patience during this improvement project. Residents are advised to watch for slow moving construction equipment and drive with extra care and to “Slow for the Cone” zone at all times.

WHAT: HIGHWAY REHABILITATION PROJECT ON STATE ROUTE 269 WITHIN THE CITY OF HURON. WHEN: BEGINNING TUESDAY, AUGUST 3RD FROM 6:00 A.M. TO 6:00 P.M. WHERE: ON STATE ROUTE 269, FROM TORONADO AVENUE TO 10TH STREET
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces that Granite Construction will begin a highway improvement project along State Route 269 within the City of Huron. This project will consist of grinding, dig-outs and an overlay of slurry seal material that will extend the life of the existing roadway. Striping operations will follow along this newly paved section. It is anticipated that this entire project will be completed within 20-working days.
The traveling public will experience one-way traffic control during the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. (Date and times subject to change due to unforeseen contractor operations).
Flaggers will be on site to assist motorists through the project area. Motorists may experience delays in this area during this time frame. Motorists are asked to use an alternate route whenever possible.

WHAT: STATE ROUTE 99 BRIDGE DECK STRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT. WHEN: BEGINNING MONDAY, JULY 19th LOCAL STREET WORK WILL OCCUR ON OVERCROSSINGS ALONG SR 99 FROM 7:00 P.M. UNTIL 6:00 A.M. EACH MORNING FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. CONSTRUCTION OF BRIDGE DECKS ALONG HIGHWAY 99 REQUIRING LANE CLOSURES WILL BEGIN AUG 2ND UNTIL SEPT. 2010. (NO WEEKEND WORK) WHERE: IN FRESNO COUNTY; IN AND NEAR FRESNO, SOUTH OF CHESTNUT AVENUE TO JUST SOUTH OF THE BIOLA JUNCTION BRIDGE.
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces that C.C. Meyers, Inc. has been awarded a saw cutting & bridge joint sealing and approach slab improvement project for various overcrossings along 12 miles of northbound and southbound State Route 99.
Within the next two weeks, advance signage will be placed advising motorists of upcoming SR99 lane closures and on/off ramp closures necessary to complete this project. Lane closures within the project limits along State Route 99 will be necessary at/near the following construction locations:
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will implement COZEEP operations within the project limits in order to implement safety within the construction zone.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces that Viking Construction has been awarded a $4 million auxiliary lane improvement project within the City of Fresno. The Bullard Avenue off-ramp will be subject to a full closure in order to widen the shoulder and install concrete K-Railing in order to continue to implement construction behind K-Railing. At times, intermittent #3 lane (slow lane) closures along State Route 41 mainline will be necessary in order to safely implement the various phases of this project. However, at no time will two consecutive off-ramps be closed at the same time. Motorists should expect two lanes of northbound SR 41 to be open to through traffic at all times. (Schedule subject to change due to unforeseen contractor operations).
It is anticipated that the majority of construction will take place beginning Sunday evenings from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. each day; (Sunday p.m. -Friday a.m.) However, some construction may continue during the day.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces that Granite Construction Inc. has been awarded a ramp metering improvement project along northbound State Route 41 within the City of Fresno. Construction of this project is scheduled to begin next week and is anticipated to be completed in winter 2011. The project limits for this project are from the Ashlan Avenue overcrossing to just north of the Bullard Avenue overcrossing along northbound State Route 41.

STATE ROUTE 180 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: INDIANOLA & DEL REY AVENUES CLOSED BEGINNING MAY 18
WHAT: INDIANOLA and DEL REY AVENUES will be CLOSED to all traffic north of Kings Canyon as part of the on-going construction of State Route 180 from Temperance Avenue to Academy Avenue, in Fresno County. ACCESS: Residents can access Belmont Ave. by use of a temporary DIRT ACCESS ROAD connecting DEL REY AVENUE to INDIANOLA AVENUE along the north-side of State Route 180. NO access will be provided through the Construction Zone to existing State Route 180. This CLOSURE will be in place Tuesday, May 18 and remain in place for the next 3-6 months, weather permitting. NOTE: Residents please contact your garbage, newspaper & delivery providers, as well as family & friends of this CLOSURE. Thank you! COMMUTER ALERT: STATE ROUTE 180 - CONSTRUCTION ROAD CLOSURES & DETOURS IN PLACE, MAY 3
WHAT: 4-lanes of New Expressway will be constructed & Kings Canyon (SR-180) will remain OPEN throughout the 2-Phases of Construction from Temperance Ave. to Academy Ave. This project has been on Winter Suspension & construction will resume on Monday, MAY 3, weather permitting.
The TRAFFIC DETOUR PLAN FOR “PHASE 1” IS OUTLINED BELOW: DETOUR: PHASE 1- Construct west bound lanes of future Expressway/SR-180. All crossroads accessing Kings Canyon from the north will be CLOSED. Traffic will be DETOURED on to Belmont to the north or Jensen to south, motorists may use Temperance, McCall or Academy to travel north & south bound. This DETOUR will start Monday, MAY 3 and remain in place for the next 6-months, weather permitting. CONSTRUCTION BEGINS JULY 6TH ON THE STATE ROUTE 99/145 BRIDGE WIDENING PROJECT WHAT: BRIDGE WIDENING ON STATE ROUTE 99 & STATE ROUTE 145
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces that the State Route 99 and State Route 145 Bridge Widening Improvement Project will officially begin next week.
F.C.I Constructors, is the contractor on this $4 million project and it is anticipated this project will be completed by summer 2010. The following construction schedule is in place and is subject to change due to contractor operations:
Beginning Monday, July 6th, initial clearing of brush and vegetation around the bridge abutments will take place within both the northbound and southbound lanes from 6:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Beginning Thursday evening, July 9Th, concrete k-railing will be set in place on both the northbound and southbound State Route 99 shoulders and will require the closure of the # 1 lane in each direction from 7:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m., Friday morning.
Portable changeable message signs will be in place in order to notify motorists of the upcoming lane closures. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will implement COZEEP operations in order to implement safety operations within the construction zone. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route whenever possible.
