Hall of Fame Awards Dinner

Beginning in 2011, The Foundation of High School Athletic Needs (F.A.N.) Club will host the Hall of Fame Dinner as a Biennial event (every other year).  The next Hall of Fame Dinner honoring the next class of inductees will be held on the first Saturday in May 2012.

The F.A.N. Club will continue to recognize the Model High School Coach of the Year and the Kenny Taylor Most Inspirational Athletes award annually.  This event will be held on the first Friday in May at the John W. Wells Youth Center located at 701 East 5th Street in Madera.  Memorabilia and awards from previous Hall of Fame Induction classes are permanently housed at the Youth Center.

The Model High School Coach of the Year is selected for not only having a tremendous impact on his or her players on the playing field, but whose dedication, concern and influence of their athletes goes beyond what is normally seen.

The Kenny Taylor Most Inspirational Athlete Award will also be presented to one student from each high school who exemplifies an athlete that not only is successful on the playing field but also exhibits the characteristics that will ensure their future success: Character, academic achievement, leadership, selflessness, teamwork and involvement in civic duties.  Each high school nominates a male and female student-athlete for each season of sport.

About F.A.N.

Funds raised through F.A.N. support will be split equally between the Athletic Departments at both High Schools in Madera.  For more information or to enroll your business, contact Bill Dawson (559) 479-1649 or Staci Martines (559) 647-8332

F.A.N. is a local foundation was formed in 2007 by Madera business owners for the sole purpose of raising athletic funds to be disbursed equally between the Madera High School and Madera South High School Athletic booster clubs. Once raised, these funds would be distributed to the schools’ athletic programs via their respective athletic booster clubs. It will be the booster clubs’ responsibility to allocate the funds to the individual sports programs as they see fit.

Our goal is two-fold. First, we hope that F.A.N. will provide funds necessary to alleviate the fund raising burden from the coaches, thereby allowing them the time and energy to focus on coaching their teams to victory.

Second, we realize that with the opening of the Madera South High School, in addition to Madera High School, local businesses could be overwhelmed with requests for financial support for both schools. F.A.N. strives to alleviate “support burnout” or “support bankruptcy” by providing a method of donation that will equally assist both schools in obtaining their fund raising goals.

Should a business donate a substantial amount to F.A.N., it will receive a window decal to display, indicating that the business supports both schools equally. It also indicates to team members/coaches/parents who are trying to raise funds for their individual sports programs that the business has already donated a substantial amount of money and that they are not to solicit that business in person. However, those individuals are still free to solicit by phone or by mail. F.A.N. is not attempting to block teams from soliciting donations from a business, it is just trying to alleviate the large amount of person-to-person solicitation a business might receive.

It must be said that if a business wants to give to a specific high school or a specific sports program (i.e. wrestling), F.A.N. will be able to facilitate that transaction. However, those funds would not apply toward the window decal that signifies equal support to both high schools.

F.A.N.'s ultimate financial goal is to raise enough funds so that 50% of those funds is greater that what the one high school is now receiving.

The following business owners have already contributed to F.A.N. and would be willing to answer any questions you might have:
